Freshness In A Basket

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Gloria Diaz Remember how glad you were when you were given fruit baskets as complementary gifts hotels? I’m sure you almost didn’t want to touch it, or even eat its contents. “It’s just too beautiful to be eaten” is your excuse why you don’t want to eat it. Don’t be so awestruck. Fruit baskets are easily styled with the right attitude and a healthy dose of creativity. Why not impress everyone and give them fruit baskets as gifts at the next gift-giving season? A large factor in designing your own fruit basket is organization. Prepare all materials prior to decorating such as baskets, ribbons, craft materials, and of course, your fruits. In creating your own fruit baskets, remember to choose a basket with a relatively wide brim, sturdy structure and without handles. Nice weave patterns won’t hurt. It must be sturdy because fruits aren’t lightweight. Wide brim will allow your fruits breathing space. It will also make arranging them easier. Baskets should have no handles because you will need to stretch and taper plastic wrap around your fruits to prevent them from disassembling and moving. Use fruits that aren’t mushy or fleshy like apples, pears pineapples, kiwis, grapefruits, melons, and oranges. Keep in mind to avoid using fruits that ripen quickly like bananas if the basket needs to be shipped; otherwise, they are okay. Stickers from the fruits must be removed, it is common sense not to show the recipient where you bought your gift right? Wipe the fruits with a clean cloth because washing them might draw out unwanted juices. Be careful when polishing fruits, you don’t want to bruise them. In decorating fruit baskets, position taller fruits like pineapples or watermelons at the back. This will give the other fruits the support to lean on to. Medium size fruits goes in the middle while the smaller ones will look pretty piled at the front. Contrasting colors is key to an attractive and catchy basket. Stack reds, oranges, yellow fruits alternately with the green, purple, and other dark color fruits. Clumps of berries are good for accents. Fill the gaps with blooms and leaves. Adding wedges of cheese is also an option. Don’t make your fruity tower too high because you might have trouble wrapping it. Shrink wrap your fruits baskets and seal at the bottom. Poke tiny holes with a needle around the baskets to let air in. in doing this avoid damaging the fruits. A poked fruit can release enough juice to ruin your work. Finish off your basket with a bow at the top and a note card. Remind recipients that the fruits are perishable and must be consumed, not looked at. Signing your name is not a bad idea, after all with baskets like these, you’ll want to help your recipients direct the compliments to you. Unsecured Loans: Meeting Your Expenses Make Easy

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Daniel_Johns]Daniel Johns A loan is common term of raising funds. If you are a tenant, then it is difficult to avail a secured loan. Lenders will always insist on collaterals for a secured loan. In such a situation, unsecured loans are most useful financial device to raise the funds instantly for your own reasons. You can use your loan for any purpose like for home improvement, as holiday package, business development, for buying commercial property, for paying medical bills, for funding your siblings education etc. Unsecured loans come with high interest rate in general. But if you have a bad credit history due to some exceptional reasons, it becomes more intricate. Lenders refer past credit history of the borrowers before sanctioning any loan. They have all the rights to do so. After all, lenders risk their money. They are clueless about the full recovery of their amount. There are some obvious disadvantages of unsecured loans; interest rates will be higher, monthly payment will also not be less, payment duration will not be longer, your bad credit will be under lenders surveillance . And the merits are even more usable. Unsecured loans are fast and simple, there is no need of offering collaterals, and borrowers have literally no risk involved, you can wind up your loan as quickly as possible. You can rejuvenate your financial profile by availing an unsecured loan. Most of the students who stay with their parents or new in their profession and have virtually nothing to offer as collateral prefer unsecured loans. Making Projects Simple And Convenient With The Use Of A Sewing Machine

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Michelle Bery There was a time when everything that was sewn was done so by hand; such was the way of the world when clothes, household items, and a bevy of materials that we take for granted today were put together with needle, thread, and a lot of hard work. But the advent of the sewing machine changed the way in which we created these goods and for those who continue to sew today, the sewing machine remains the tool of choice. Since the American-patent was filed in 1846, the sewing machine quickly took its place in history, offering users a level of convenience not previously experienced. Sewing was always something that took time, patience, and hard work. The sewing machine, while still maintaining a need for focus, concentration, and time, allowed the making of projects in a much more efficient way. Of course, the sewing machine of today barely resembles the sewing machine of the past. Streamlined and sleek, todays sewing machine offers the ability to create any kind of stitch that you require and has increasingly elevated the user experience over the years to a heightened level of convenience. For those who are just starting out learning how to sew, a sewing machine may not be a purchase you want to make right away. These machines depending on the bells and whistles they include can be quite pricey. You should be sure that you enjoy sewing and wish to continue before you make the financial investment necessary to purchase a sewing machine. If you do decide to take the leap, be sure to do some comparison shopping. Youll often find a wide variety of prices on different models of sewing machines so take your time to find the one that offers all of the features that you want at a price point you can afford. Cheap Garden Furniture

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Thomas Morva Garden furniture includes a range of furniture that is commonly used for resting, sitting, and decorative purposes. As the name suggests, the furniture is placed in the garden, and has features that are characteristic of such furniture. They are available in a range of different materials and upholstery selections and can be manufactured using outdoor wood, plastic, cast iron, wrought iron, or wicker. Prices are economical or expensive based upon the material used to manufacture them. Plastic outdoor furniture is long lasting, as it is sturdy and resilient. It is generally considered a one-time buy due to this feature. It is recommended that the garden furniture should be bought, after making a study of the market trends and comparing prices to suit the budget. This helps the customer to zero in on a cheap and feasible range of garden furniture. The competition between the manufacturers helps in lowering the price. Manufacturers often offer discount on garden furniture to attain optimum sales. This provides avenues to get cheap garden material. It is advisable to physically inspect the furniture piece for any flaw before buying it from any sale. It is possible to get cheap garden furniture in closeouts of shops or in garage sales. When purchasing garden furniture, people may go online and browse through the various sites. Trade patterns prove that online purchases prove to be cheaper. This is cheaper as these companies incur minimal overhead expenditure. It allows them to offer products at comparatively lower rates as compared to physical stores. A large number of people choose to construct garden furniture, with the help of carpenters or fabricators. This at times is found to be cheaper than getting manufactured products. When potential buyers purchase a range of garden furniture rather than single purchases, they get them cheaper. Garden Furniture provides detailed information on Garden Furniture, Teak Garden Furniture, Outdoor Garden Furniture, Patio and Garden Furniture and more. Garden Furniture is affiliated with Stone Garden Bench. There’s No Secret To Losing Weight - The Plain and Simple Solution

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Jonathan G. Michel The obesity and overweight problem usually starts at a very young age, but don’t despair. Being a post-war child, born in 48, our generation of children were generally slim just like our parents and grandparents. We were raised on a usually big breakfast, had very little for lunch, and on to the biggest meal of the day, supper. There were no snacks and in-betweens. But then again, we didn’t have McDonalds, Wendys, Taco Bell etc. as this was the 50s and money was also scarce. Later on in years, however, I continued being a breakfast guy skipping lunch except for a short period when I decided I would be more sociable and have lunch with my work buddies at the local tavern. My favorite meal was a hamburger steak with fried onions, fries and gravy, washed down with a couple of beers. In a matter of a month or two, I had overgrown my tailor made shirts with buttons popping at every breath. I quickly gave up that routine and went back to skipping lunch and returned to my normal size. Today however, according to statistics, more than 1/3 of low income family children are obese and overweight by the time they reach the age of 3. Over 2000 families in 20 US cities including Boston, were visited and evaluated measuring the height and weight of every 3 year old child, with alarming results. 35% had twice the national rate for obesity amongst pre-school children of all income levels and racial groups. Bottom line, children are the mirror images of their parents and at the very least, pick up their habits at a very young age and carry it over into adulthood. As a child, I seldom saw lunch on the table except maybe for a few sandwiches, and only occasionally. The rule was breakfast or you didn’t eat until supper. My 5 children always have breakfast and seldom have lunch. They hardly go to a fast food place, since we as parents don’t go. Times have changed and so we pay the price. With generally two parents working, there’s no time for a big breakfast. So lunch, with all its fatty ingredients, replace the breakfast and often followed with fast food at supper time. The solution is simple and more accessible than you think, even if you skip breakfast in the mornings. Eat your breakfast equivalent at lunch time, and I guarantee you’ll lose weight naturally in no time. Just plain skip the equivalent of a fast food lunch. If you can’t do it that way, then replace your lunch with a natural suppressant. J.G. Thinking About Shooting a Wedding Video? Read This First!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Olivia Romero Are you thinking about being a Good Samaritan to a bridal couple by offering to shoot their wedding video? Have you just purchased the latest, high-tech video camera that you’re sure will make this production a “slam dunk?” Certainly, video cameras today are designed to capture footage in the easiest way possible…you turn the camera on, point and shoot”. So couples wanting to save money, or well-intentioned friends or relatives with a new video camera decide that shooting a wedding video is a breeze, and quickly find themselves in way over their heads. We’ve been asked to fix many of these “do-it-yourself” wedding video disasters. This may come as a surprise, but you can have the easiest to use video camera inthe world but it won’t guarantee that you will end up with a decent-looking wedding video. As my friend, Tony, likes to point out, just because you can light the stove doesnt mean you can cook. Shooting an important event, such as a wedding, where you only get one chance to get it right, is a little more complicated than “point and shoot.” But the good news is that its not that much more complicated. With just a little planning and utilizing the following very important, but easy to gather equipment and supplies, you can do it yourself and have a wedding video that you will be proud to present to the bride and groom. 1.Tripod(s) It doesnt matter if use VHS camcorders, DV Cams or film cameras, but a tripod is one of the most important pieces of equipment you will be using during the shooting of the wedding. A tripod ensures that your shots will be stable while giving you controlled flexibility to perform smooth and simple zooms and pans. If you cant afford to purchase a tripod, rentals are easy to find at reasonable prices. 2. Camera and Microphone batteries. Each camera and microphone should have two, fully-charged batteries. If you don’t have power, your camera and microphones are useless. Two batteries insure that if one battery dies you’ll have a backup. 3. Microphone (Hand-held or lavaliere) Another piece of optional audio equipment you may want to rent or buy is an external microphone. A microphone plugs into the camera through the external mic input jack and allows you to capture better audio and gives you better range with your camera. 4. Audio/Microphone Cables Audio/microphone cables will give you the flexibility of increasing the range of your camera and/or accessing the sound system of the church/wedding venue. If there is an available sound system ask the audio control operator to give you an audio feed to your camera. Plug one end of your audio cable into the Mic Level output and the other end into your camera. These cables are also available inexpensively for purchase or rent. 5. Headphones Its important to check the quality of the audio that you are receiving by having someone speak into the microphone while you listen through headphones. There will be a headphone jack on your camera that you can easily plug into. Adjust audio levels as necessary. You can purchase headphones as cheaply as $9 at your local Radio Shack. 6. AC Power Adapters If convenient, you can power the camera by electricity, however, its critical that you make sure the power cord is not a tripping hazard. Where necessary, attach the cord securely to the floor by completely covering its length with duct tape. This is called dressing the cord. 7. Duct Tape, Markers, Pens and notepad These small supplies will prove invaluable for helping you get and stay organized. Duct tape comes in handy when dressing power cords or attaching wireless microphone receivers to the leg of your tripod. You can also duct tape your audio cable connections so they can’t be accidentally pulled apart. Markers and pens are important for marking/numbering your videotape cassettes and taking notes. 8. Videotape Stock Ask the couple how long they expect the wedding to be, then purchase enough videotape to cover twice that length of time. For example, if the bride tells you she expects the wedding to last one hour (60 minutes) then purchase enough tape to cover two hours (120 minutes) for each camera you will be using. This ensures that you will have enough tape for the wedding and the reception. Its better to have too many tapes than not enough. 9. And…something to carry all this equipment (camera bag, duffel bag, backpack, etc.) Having all your supplies in an easy-to-carry bag will ensure that everything you need will be within easy reach while reducing the chances of misplacing something. Just remember, anyone can use a video camera. It takes something special to create a professional-looking wedding video. Something special means taking the time to do a little planning and having all the right tools to make this a positive experience for you with a special outcome for the bridal couple. Pros and Cons of Teeth Whitening

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Michael Colucci Everybody wants a whiter and brighter smile. Who doesnt? And a person who longs to achieve a perfect smile is willing to spend thousands of dollars and endure the treatment for the sake of a whiter and brighter smile. The rewards are great. You become more attractive. Your gain more confidence. You develop more healthy oral hygienic habits. But there are also disadvantages like high costs and it is always wise to discuss the several advantages and disadvantages. Advantages: To improve appearance. This is the main goal of every person who wants to get his or her teeth whitened. Always associated with beauty and healthy lifestyle, a whiter and brighter set of teeth is highly coveted in this image-conscious world. If you have whiter teeth, you tend to smile more often because you have more confidence. Also, a whiter smile takes away the attention from any facial wrinkles or imperfection you might have and to that winning smile. And not but certainly not the least, a set of whiter teeth gives you a friendlier appearance than when your teeth were discolored or stained. Disadvantages: Tooth whitening procedures are very effective but there are also disadvantages like sore teeth or gums resulting from the bleaching treatment. This is only short term because when bleaching is discontinued, the sore disappears. This happens to patients who are sensitive to the bleaching chemical. Ask your dentist for any alternative bleaching solution that you are not allergic to. Clinical studies have shown that tooth whitening is effective to more than 78 percent of all patients who have undergone a certain procedure. But for those that bleaching did not work because of a more serious discoloration condition, other options maybe more potent. A good choice, albeit more expensive, are veneers or crowns. There are also patients who experience discomfort wearing the mouth-ray in a custom-fit tray bleaching procedure. This usually happens when the tray is not perfectly aligned with the teeth. You need to call your dentist and have him or her create adjustments to the mold so it will hold your teeth firmly and comfortably.Custom-Fit Tray Bleaching There is an at-home teeth whitening procedure in which a tray is custom-fitted to your teeth. A teeth impression is taken from your mouth like you would when getting dentures and a custom-fit tray is created for you to take home and worn for a certain period of time. Before being worn, the tray is filled with bleaching gel. The length of time the tray is worn depends upon the gels potency and your whitening needs. Because this procedure is more convenient and costs less, this is the preferred procedure of most people. Results are noticeable in a couple of days but the full effects of teeth whitening takes about 1 to 2 weeks. Custom-fir tray bleaching is more often used together with an in-office laser teeth whitening especially for people who have severe teeth discoloration. Advantages of Internet Dating

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Alan Prince Dating on the internet is one of the most popular dating venues that can be explored these days. With an estimated 40 million singles in the United States alone, it is incontrovertible that online dating is another avenue for these singles to meet people and get dates in addition to normal dating. It’s not absolutely necessary now for anyone to go to the street bar, attend parties, or attend social parties in order to get a date. You can now meet people on the internet and make friends with them. You can even go further and actually court on cyberspace, without actually having met your date in person.Dating on the internet definitely offers many advantages and benefits, for which any one who is single or searching can consider using this option. Some of these advantages include: 1.you can learn about each other lives anonymously. You can set up an anonymous identity by which you can meet with people and interact with them. This is very different from offline dating where initial interaction is based solely on what the other person knows about you. 2.you can set up multiple dates. You can be involved with as many potential suitors or dates as you wish, and none of them is any wiser as to your game.Of course, you can only date one person at a time if you were dating offline. If you tried to date two people at the same time, it’s most likely to boomerang back at you.But you can be in touch with many people at the same time on the internet, with almost no risk of any of them ever knowing of your multiple dates. This way, you can narrow your risks of being without a date at any time. If anyone of your multiple dates drops you, you have other options to choose from.In normal physical dating, it will take you some time after you break off from a date or a courtship before you can find another one. 3.On the Internet, you can mix specifically with people in your own age group. This is especially helpful to people living in towns or remote areas where there may not be many people of your age to date. 4. Without leaving your house or office, the Internet allows you to establish contact with a large number of people who are also interested in finding love .For busy people, you do not have to worry about going out with a person after you close from work, by which time you are already fagged out.You can browse the profiles and images of singles in your spare time at home or at work. Basic Approaches To Weight Management

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By D. S. Epperson Being over weight is usually being 20 percent or more over the normal weight for his or her age, sex, build, and height. According to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, a person’s weight is healthy if it falls within the acceptable range for his or her height and age; if the pattern of fat distribution does not place the person at increased risk for certain diseases; and if the person has no medical problem for which a physician recommends that he or she lose weight. What is important, is not how much a person weighs, but the percentage of body fat. For women, fat can account for as much as 25 percent of body weight; 17 percent is a healthy percentage for men. Females are designed biologically to carry a higher proportion of fat tissue to ensure that there is plenty of food for pregnancy and nursing, even if food is scarce. On average, we humans carry around 30 to 40 billion fat cells. All those excess calories we don’t use up as immediate energy, are stored as fat. If we lived in ancient times, and had to still hunt and gather food, those stores of fat would be essential for our survival in times of famine. Some researchers even believe that our seemingly innate love of high-calorie food may be a remnant of a survival tactic from ancient times, when we needed to store food for energy. But today, storing energy as fat isn’t necessary for most people. Most people wait maybe 3 to 4 hours between meals and snacks and instead of remaining a survival mechanism, the stored fat is now more likely to have a negative effect on health. As fat accumulates, it crowds the space occupied by the internal organs, and puts a lot of stress on extremities and organs causing or complicating many physical problems. Being overweight can increase the body’s resistance to insulin and can make the body more susceptible to infection, and increases the chances of developing diabetes, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, kidney disease, stroke, and other serious health problems that can result in premature death. The most common causes of obesity are poor diet and/or eating habits and a lack of exercise. Other factors that can lead to obesity include glandular malfunctions, diabetes, hypoglycemia, emotional tension, boredom and a simple love of food. Obesity has also been linked to food sensitivities and/or allergies. Food your body cannot use or that is a poison to your system is stored in the tissues and causes water retention. Ironically, poor nutrition may be an important factor in obesity. When there is inadequate intake of certain essential nutrients, fat is not easily or adequately burned and can accumulate in the body. Here are some basic approaches to weight management: *Reduce caloric intake to 1,200 calories per day. *Exercise Walk, Swim, Dance, Jump, Ride a Bike MOVE! *Do not use diuretic herbs and nutrients to reduce water this is a temporary weight loss and throws off your electrolytes which can slow your metabolism. *The use of lipotropic vitamins, which have the ability to reduce cholesterol and fat, works only is the diet is low fat and low glycemic. *Eliminate all white flour, white sugar, white salt and white rice from your diet. All these ingredients breakdown very quickly in the system, and overloads the body with carbohydrates that the body cannot use at once, so it is converted to fat and stored. *Replaced processed ingredients with ingredients that not only take longer for the system to break down, but provide better levels of nutrients also *Whole wheat flour offers the body lecithin, antioxidants, fiber and vitamins that normal processing eliminates. FlourBlend is a blend of whole flours, vitamins, minerals, herbs and fibers designed to lower cholesterol and gives half the carbohydrates of normal processed white flour, with more protein and fiber. *Stay away from artificial sweeteners, these will only make you hungry and does cause some damage to the liver or pancreas. Try our Natural SugarBlend, which offers better taste and performance in cooking, because it is natural and slow absorbing, keeps the blood sugar steady, increases the uptake of calcium and aids in colon health. *Using Sea Salt, and mineral salt can be a better alternative to regular table salt. You use less and crave salt less if you use these e alternatives, you also receive the benefits of trace minerals in trace amounts, and these trace minerals can help in preventing some stroke and cardiac problems. *Brown rice offers a great many benefits to the system, and paired with beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains, provides a complete protein for the body to use. Brown rice also is a rich antioxidant, one of the best the world has to offer. It also provides lecithin and an abundance of wonderful fiber that aids the small intestine, the colon and the large intestine. Permanent weight loss requires a lifetime commitment to a healthier lifestyle in general. D.S. The Expression-Repression-Depression-Connection

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Ken Donaldson With all these rhymes I was tempted to write a poem (and I may still…stay tuned for the sequel!!) about this topic. However, I decided I would just be straight-forward with these dynamics, seeing how critically valuable they are in our day-to-day lives. We have a choice we make many times during the course of a day: Express it or repress it. In other words, we either find a way to release our expression, which may be referred to as emotional discharge, or we stuff it, which is synonymous with repression. It is quite normal to have to do some stuffing during the course of a day, but what is important is that you have an awareness of that and find an appropriate time and place to release it. Think of these emotions as being weights, and everytime you stuff one you put some additional weight on your back. It can be very subtle; after all, a pound here and there doesnt amount to much. However, if you begin to accumulate an excessive amount, the load can very easily begin to have some profound effects on your energy. That is where the depression component comes in. I have never met a person who was struggling with this depressed energy that didnt have a significant amount of unexpressed emotion. So rather than risk getting into any depressive energy, lets look at some healthy methods of expressing your emotions. First, realize your personal indicators of stuffed emotions. Some of the common examples would include fatigue, irritation, isolation, rage, decreased concentration, obsessing/ruminating, anxiety, and sleep/appetite disturbance. Identify for yourself what your indicators are. I would recommend doing a daily inventory (call it mental flossing) to identify what, if any, feelings need to be released. Create a number of outlets to release your emotions. Some examples would include talking to your friends/your spouse/your support group, writing/journaling, singing, dancing, drumming, running, biking, weight-lifting, kick-boxing, mediation, prayer, and creative visualization. Use all the interventions that you can, and repeat as often as you need to. If any of the above emotional releasing exercises feel weird, or if you feel vulnerable or uncomfortable in doing them, then I would say Congratulations!! to you. Whenever you step out of on old pattern and into a new, it is very normal for it feel weird, vulnerable, and uncomfortable. Those feelings, in fact, are validation that you are creating some new skills to deal with these emotional dynamics. And just like everything else in life, when you repeat something over and over that is new and uncomfortable or awkward, it soon becomes comfortable and normalized in your day-to-day life. I hope you stay on the path of the expression-connection to avoid the repression-depression of non-expression. Now I think Ill go work on that poem…or maybe Ill even turn into it a rap and really get self-expressed… (Just a quick disclaimer: Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance that usually needs to be treated by medication, and although the contents of this article can be very helpful in the recovery of such a depressive state, this by no means is meant to be a substitute for medical intervention. If you think you are suffering from clinical depression, I recommend that you see your doctor or a mental health professional.)
