7 Things You Can Do Today To Get Rid Of A Beer Gut

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Peter Webber There is much hype and misinformation surrounding the subject of how to get rid of a beer gut. If you can get past the infomercials selling their ab machines, diet supplements and magic pills you’ll have a much better chance of actually seeing some proper results and holding on to the money in your pocket. Like anything in life that involves hard work and desirable results there are no shortcuts. A task such as this requires some fundamental changes in how you live your life and exchanging bad habits for good ones. Here are 7 small life changes you can make to your every day routine to help to get rid of a beer gut: 1. Park the car a few blocks from work forcing you to walk the rest of the journey every day to incorporate some exercise into your daily routine. If you take the bus or train try and get off a stop or 2 early (take a change of shoes for this). 2. Try and avoid taking lifts and escalators if there are stairs you can take instead. 3. Swap coffee for green tea. 4. Split your meals up into 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day, this will increase your metabolism and therefore burn more fat. 5. Drink lots of water, particularly when you get up and before you go to bed. 6. Eat larger meals earlier in the day when you need the energy and smaller ones in the evening when extra energy will only end up being stored as fat. Remember this expression;- “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and sup like a pauper” but try and split this into 5 or 6 meals instead of the usual 3. 7. Be conscious of how you sit at your desk or how you hold yourself during your day to day routine. One of the best ways to develop a flat tummy is to exercise your transverse abdominus. You do this by holding in your stomach (without holding your breath). Aim to see how long you can hold it in for and better your time every day. Drawing your belly button into your spine is sometimes referred to as ‘activating your core’. If you work at a computer set a calendar reminder to ‘activate your core’ several times a day. If you don’t work at a computer set your watch or phone alarm to remind you to do this. Tensing your stomach muscles and drawing your naval into your spine is something you can do sitting or standing and in almost any situation. These 7 tips can make a world of difference to helping you get rid of a beer gut if you add them to your daily routine. Proper diet and exercise play an important part as well, however it is possible to multitask and lose your beer gut when youre at work and even at play. If you combine these routine changes with a solid exercise and diet system youll start seeing results a lot quicker than you thought possible. Of course youll want to make sure youre using the right diet and exercise system such as the one featured on http://www.lose-the-beer-belly.com. 10 Philippine Herbal Medicines Endorsed by the Department of Health

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Arnold Alvarez Herbal medicine is the use of leaves, barks, roots and flowers of plants for the treatment or prevention of ailments or the promotion of good health. Like China, the Philippines is another country long known for using herbal medicines long before its popularity in the west. In recent years, medical researchers, organizations, pharmaceutical companies and government health agencies took a serious look at folkloric herbal medicines often used by Filipinos in rural areas. Research and studies by the academe, industries and government confirm the effectively of certain herbs in the treatment of diseases. Many of these herbs also proved to have health benefits in addition to their curative value. The Philippine Department of Health, after thorough evaluation and years of clinical trials have endorsed 10 herbal plants as alternative medicines for various diseases ranging from asthma, hypertension to diabetes. The 10 herbs endorsed by the Philippine Department of Health are: 1. Akapulko for fungal infections. 2. Ampalaya for diabetes. 3. Bawang for hypertension. 4. Bayabas as antiseptic. 5. Lagundi for asthma 6. Niyog-niyogan for intestinal infestation 7. Sambong as a diuretic 8. Tsaang Gubat for intestinal motility 9. Ulasimang Bato for gout 10. Yerba Buena as analgesic Caution however is advised to those who wish to try herbal medicines. A lot of research is still to be done and standards of dosage have to be established. Many of the commercially available herbal medicines are listed as supplements and have not passed the stringent standards required by the Bureau of Food and Drug Administration. Some herbal medicines also react to prescription & nonprescription drugs. Always consult your doctor before taking any herbal medicine. Author: Arnold A. Hair Removal: Threading, Friction and Epilators

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Michael Russell Friction, Threading and the use of rotating epilators are other methods of hair removal. Friction - Friction is not a very popular method of hair removal although some people find it effective on fine hairs of the legs and arms. In this method, a rough surface, like a mitt or a pumice stone, is used to rub away hair on the skin’s surface. A mitt with rough strips on a smooth surface is often used. Friction is inexpensive, fast, basically painless and can be done at home. This also exfoliates and smoothes the skin. Most say this method is good for fine hair on the legs while others use it between shaving or waxing sessions. The effects last a short time, a few hours to a few days and a pigmented area often called the dark ’shadow’ is often visible. This can also cause skin irritation if rubbed too hard and is not for use on sensitive areas like the face, arms or bikini area. Threading (Khite) - This method is called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian. It’s not a commonly used method in the West but it is primarily for removing hair at the root and is used mainly on facial hair, especially in the eyebrow area. Rows of three to five stray hair strands are pulled out with twists of cotton thread. Traditionally, the practitioner holds one end of the cotton thread in his teeth and the other end in his left hand. The middle part of the thread is looped through the index and middle fingers of the right hand. The practitioner then uses this loop of thread to lock in a series of unwanted hairs and yank them by the root from the skin. There are also devices made that can hold the thread during the procedure. A more modern procedure eliminates the use of the practitioner’s teeth. Threading is inexpensive, neat, accurate and fast. This method is considered a little less painful than plucking or tweezing for many people. Threading is deemed good for cleaning the eyebrows and facial hair. Similar to plucking, results can last up to two to four weeks. Unfortunately, you cannot do it yourself and it is a little difficult to find a good professional practitioner outside urban areas. Many states call for a licensed cosmetologist to do hair removal like threading. Threading can result in pain and itching. In some cases, this results in side effects which include folliculitis, which is a bacterial infection of hair follicles causing reddening or puffiness of the skin and changes in skin pigment. Rotary Epilators - Rotary epilators are devices that are akin to electric razors. The difference is that, instead of a cutting blade on the rotary head, the epilator has rows of tweezers which yank hairs out by the root. This tool is good for the hair on legs and arms. The hair-free effect can last from several days to a few weeks. However, this device can be hard to use on the backs of legs. Others become sore, especially on the body’s sensitive areas and the epilators often prove to be difficult to use on fine hairs. Also, the hairs to be removed must be grown long enough so that the tweezers can grasp them. To aid in this procedure, the skin must be pulled tight to avoid pinching. Like plucking, this can also result in irritation and ingrown hairs. Eating Right From The Word

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Dianne Terry An indicator maybe? But; than again maybe not. It all depends on the individual make up. One thing is certain. Whatever is happening on the inside will come through; one way or the other. I personally prefer that to be a positive thing. Since I like to look as good as I can be for me.. That being said. You got to go deep within and begin to feed that inner man or woman right. Sometimes you have to do a complete detoxification of the soul. Just get rid of all that poison you been getting from the world of chaos and confusion. In the bible it talks about carrying such a heavy load. We got to learn how to put it down. Let it go and give it to God. Someone whose capable of carrying it. Once we do that we can feel the load being lifted and the freedom from that alone; causes us to feel a lightness. That makes you feel like you’re floating on a cloud. Because we’ve carried that weight so long we forgot what it feels like moving without it. Before we go through that detoxification; we really can’t handle anymore than milk . When we do that we can began to eat some of the good fruit. Than, before you know it. We become strong enough to eat some real meat. Which will give us strength to soar like eagles. All made up of the word of God. What a delight it is to set at the kings table and feast. All we have to do is began with the first step. Just like a new born baby. Whatever it is you need; can be accomplished by eating right from the word. Just take a trip through the BIBLE- (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth). View the gospel of John. Than go see proverbs and when you leave there. Go out in praise through psalms. I promise you will find complete satisfaction. Soon you’ll obtain a hunger. Eventually you’ll have to go back. Over and over again. In this world;we need fuel to function. So eat right. Spiritual food is also a necessity in sustaining life. I’ve been writing every since I learned the alphabet in elementary school. I wrote short quotations in high school and various articles in college. Don’t Give Up on Your Diet

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Nathalie Lussier It has happened to all of us at some point or another: we were doing so well with our weight loss diet or exercise regime. Then suddenly we fell off the horse and decided that if we had already gone this far we might as well give up entirely. There’s an old Chinese tale about a father and his son who lived on a farm. Together they raised sheep and cared for them. They lived off of these sheep and were able to make money from the sheep’s fur. Every day both the father and the son walked around the field where they were raising the sheep to check that the fence was in good order. One night, the fence broke and some wolves sneaked into the field and ate some of the sheep. The son cried out to his father saying that all was lost and that they were now ruined! But the father simply picked up his tools and took his son to the fence to patch it up. Once the fence had been fixed, the father told his son that just because there was a weakness in the fence it does not mean that it cannot be fixed nor that it is impossible for them to keep raising sheep. Your diet or exercise regime is like sheep, it is always at risk of violated or destroyed. The fence represents your will power and your circumstances. It might happen that you’re too busy to go to the gym or go jogging every morning for a period of time. It might happen that you were forced to stop at a fast food joint on the side of the high way. It might happen that you cave in to eating some chips, some chocolate, or any one of your other cravings. But that doesn’t mean you should give up and let your sheep continue to be eaten by wolves. After you’ve stuffed yourself with what you know to be unhealthy food: stop and think about it. It’s not the end of the world. If you go end up on a binge of food, you don’t need to eat more bad food to “get it out of your system”, to feel better or to make sure it never happens again. You will be faced with times where you want to eat something unhealthy, or you want to sleep in and skip your step class. No problem, but don’t let that one incident ruin your motivation or your commitment to your diet or exercise regime. It happens to everyone, but if you’re one of the people who is able to pick yourself up and fix the fence you’ll be able to keep losing weight and get healthier. I hope this story has helped you to understand that not all is lost if your resolve waivers for a day or a week, or what have you. You are the boss of yourself and you can chose to return to eating healthy foods and working out on a regular basis without any fear. Trust in yourself and make sure you keep your eyes focused on the goal since that’s what keeps us all motivated. Dating Russian Women - First, Where To Find Them?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Peter Finch Probably you have already noticed them. They are slim, elegant, charming, smiling. They have angel wings when they laugh and then suddenly they stop, slightly biting their lips before bursting into laughter again. Some men say that dating a Russian woman feels like being blessed. Modern Russians are well educated sexy women. They pay attention to their health and body and are good companions. It is their genes and positive attitude to life which keep them young-looking forever. Spotting the woman of your dreams immediately, you feel like inviting her for a romantic dinner and having her in your arms. But you should know one thing: dating Russian women is a true challenge. Just like in poker, in matchmaking everything depends on the moment. Generally speaking, Russians are modest, unpretentious and shy, but there are moments when they become true femmes fatales and irresistible opponents. How your date is going to develop completely depends on the starting point. Holiday abroad When abroad, Russian women are extremely open minded and frank regarding anyone who is interested in them. Usually they prefer to travel alone or with a girlfriend in search of the perfect male who is able to satisfy their love instincts. You can speak to many hotel owners and they will tell you one and the same: dating Russian women abroad where they feel that no family members or relatives are around is extremely easy and moving experience. They flirt, lurk and seduce like no other human being. They are easy to date and be loved because they go for a holiday exactly because of this - to meet the right man who will turn the night upside down for them. Holiday in Russia If you are on a business trip in Russia and all of a sudden you fall in love with a gorgeous Russian lady who is having her dinner alone on the table next to you, you should be prepared for a long fight for her heart. When at home where everyone knows them, dating Russian women is challenging and sometimes an impossible initiative. One of the reasons is that they are afraid of gossip or public opinion. Russians like foreigners but there are always people who would put a label on women who are having a romance with them. Being discreet and refined man will help you find your place in the emotional Russian female’s world. Dating website If you have seen banners of a dating site and followed the links, you have probably already seen many profiles of Russian women. Some of them are there just to practice their English or other foreign language while others are looking for a real date. Beware that distance is an important factor when you start your online flirt and you should be ready for a few sacrifices if you fall in love with someone and want to see her for real. This includes either to invite your online-friend for holiday in your country or going to Russia for a blind date with destiny. The online world is always risky and it would be sad if you travel thousands of miles to the town of Mankaveyevka just to find out that the woman who invited you there was actually using fake pictures just to play a game of hide and seek with you. Guide to Cold Laser Therapy and Its Many Health Benefits

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Chris Robertson Cold laser therapy, or low level laser therapy, is a treatment in which a cold laser is used to treat acute and chronic pain. It is also called a “soft laser.” If you suffer from back pain, joint pain, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, neuropathy, neck pain, or other related health conditions, cold laser therapy might be a viable solution for you. How it Works Cold laser therapy works by increasing the levels of serotonin to help your body heal itself. The therapy is noninvasive and non-thermal. The cold laser was derived from phototherapy, a light healing method developed more than 30 years ago. In phototherapy, a special type of light penetrates the surface of the skin as well as underlying tissues to stimulate natural healing in the body. The low level laser light used in cold laser therapy is actually the compressed light of a wavelength from the red part of the light spectrum, or the cold part. During the cold laser process, the body’s cells are exposed to photon energy, which in turn increases the cells’ metabolism, helps to develop muscle tissue and collagen, improves blood circulation, stimulates tissue repair and the healing of wounds, and stimulates the nervous and immune systems. Cold lasers are also used in acupuncture to stimulate the acupoints of the body without using needles. Types of Cold Laser Treatments There are several types of cold laser treatments such as the Q1000 Laser, 660 Probe, 808 Probe, Q1000 Propack, and the Q10 Laser. The Q1000 Laser features nine different wavelengths meant to help cells for nerves, muscles, bone, ligaments, skin and tendons. Also with the Q1000 Laser, light is sent through quartz crystal, which gives the laser organic characteristics. The 660 Probe is a gentle cold laser that penetrates deep into the body and provides more concentrated healing. It is often used for dental healing, facial or skin treatment, acupuncture, anti-aging, physical therapy, and more. The 808 Probe uses an infrared laser to reach cells in the innermost parts of the body. It helps with bones and teeth as well as ligaments, tendons, and joints. The Q10 Laser is less expensive than the Q1000 and helps with injuries, pain, and facial rejuvenation. It’s also great for traveling. The Q1000 Propack combines all soft lasers into one package. Using Healing Lasers You can use healing lasers at home. Some lasers require training while others are fairly simple to use. The simpler models are designed so you can hold the laser near your body in the area where treatment is needed without discomfort. The laser does the work for you. The lasers also have different modes to help with certain needs. If you are considering cold laser treatments, consult with your doctor first. With cold laser therapy, you can aid your body in healing using a natural, effective method. Keep this guide handy while seeking the cold laser products that are right for you. Best Colleges for Pursuing a Communications Degree

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Nic Haffner When it comes to choosing a college to pursue you degree in Communications you should take the time to do your research and visit as many schools as possible to find out what exactly sets there programs apart from others. While many schools claim to be the “best” it can be a subjective term as what defines the best is different for every person. A college education is important in getting the job you want in life. Often we know generally what we would like to pursue in life but have a hard time nailing it down to a specific field. This is where schools and academic advisors come into play by helping you define your career goals and showing you the best way to pursue a degree in that particular field. For example, a communications specialist can work in human resources, advertising, publications, research and development, sales and marketing, and training departments. They can do contract work as a freelancer, work for a consulting or public relations firm, in the foreign service, for the government at all 3 levels, labor unions, non-profit organizations, in the medical services field, and at colleges, universities, technical and vocations schools. From one degree all these potential career opportunities exist! The best way to find a school that matches you interest and will provide the quality of education you are seeking in your field is to contact others who are already in the industry. You can not only find out from them what college they went to but also what they feel is important when choosing a college because of the real-life experience they have working in the field. Often they recommend you look into a different school than they attended because of what they have learned on the job.
